Do aimbots still exist???

My friend and I use to play a mod called railarena years ago. We recently started playing again.
For those of you who don't know it, it is similar to instaunlagged but there are power ups, different maps and the rail recharges like normal quake 3.
Anyway, I have a feeling he may be using an aimbot. Sometimes he hits me with the most amazing shots. Like before I am done spawing I am dead. I know that you can get lucky guessing spawns but not this frequently. Sometimes I catch him looking the other way with his back to me yet he hits me without turning.

I searched for aimbots but of course no one likes to talk about them. I have played against people, back in the day, who used them and it really pissed me off! I never used one but I know they exist or at least they use to.

How can I find out if he is cheating?

have a freind join the server and spectate him while recording a demo.

review the demo later.

i ran a server once and when people complained about a possible cheater i used a wallhack program created by my freind to see what the person i was spectating was seeing.

i never did catch creep cheating :)

besides actually recording him cheating, or saying to yourself "Maybe hes that good" theres very little you can do.

EXCEPT

start running pure servers or servers with PB

No need to use cheats if you record a demo.

When you play it back, use r_showtris 1 or r_shownormals 1 to see what a possible hacker sees.

I doubt it. I got my pants in a wad about creep a couple of years back and after everyone told me it wasn't possible I backed down. And that was back when everyone and their mom was playing on ax's server.

If it turns out he is cheating after all that time, then... lol... told you so.

i was in a dilema .. didn't want to boot off someone that everybody said was cheating without proof.
no one ever sent proof so i tried to catch him lots of times and failed.
i even had to cheat to try and catch him

my heart says he was i just couldn't prove it.

So that picture isn't taken from creeps screen?

Cause all the shit on the hud is aimbot stuff, whereas just the fact that he happens to be pointing right at the guy behind the wall is... less significant.

on slower machines, he rail graphic may appear to go through walls, like around corners and stuff, while the actual shot taken was legitimate

JB: in that pic he's aiming through massive amounts of brick wall...

yup ..my hud specing creep ..like i said i never did in my mind catch him but with screenshots like that it makes you wonder.
the demos i have points to something fishy
but with sound cues "knowing somewhat where the player is " i have giving him the benefit of doubt.

haven't had much experience of looking for them in q3, but watched demos of quite a few contested cod/cod:uo matches.

only looked at a cheat once (that famous one) so i don't know anything about how they work - but the cheaters in cod did noticeable things (that might've been cheat-specific) like moving to keep people in rendered, but not-yet-visible portals. they were wallhacking, but clever enough not to plop their cursor right over the enemy. another one admitted to using an aimbot but said that he had it's fov set to a very low number - so it only kicked in to help him with the last few pixels. i guess that would be much harder to spot than someone who appears to be able to shoot through the back of their own head.

My friend says he isn't but I don't believe him. This is the same friend that when we use to live together he would pick up the cordless house phone, back in the dial up days, so my connection would get real laggy and I would get off the computer. Then he would get on it and say it was working great for him. It took me months to figure out what he was doing.

I don't know how to record a demo or any of that stuff. Could someone please explain it or give me a good link to read about it?

* wow* flashback!

Man I remember when all that was going on.

I smiled when I saw your post in here ax!

Creep played so damn good it was un-nerving.

Ehhhh *smirks* It was all fun even with the that constant problem with people calling creep a cheater.

He was damn good!

*oh crap... sorry for the de-railing the thread beekermartin*
* was a quick blast from the past in this thread! *
*gets the hell out of here to finish up @work and get home.*

Well I remember playing creep like last year, he only came back very briefly at ap longue (probably for less than 3 days). Needless to say he was pretty horrible. I wonder if it's because of all the time he hadn't played (I reckon from the time axboobies went down) or maybe he was trying to play without his *ax ;) I remember him saying something like "Ok, that's enough quake for me to last me a year", then he disconnected and never came back :)

...back when I played P.R. 1.16n the second clan I was in.. our clan leader used a bot. It was an instagib clan..so using an aim-bot was pretty easy to use without anybody noticing that you were using it. Especially on q3dm17. The dude that made the mods that we ran on our servers(using sv_pure 0)which people didn't need to download the mod to play it...he made the bot for the leader and himself. I was dumb-founded by how good the leader was..as a person would have to play him to get into the clan. It was like getting frag-raped.
I didn't know until later that the leader was using an aim-bot. It ended up breaking the clan up, once word spread. Our mod maker ended up telling me and some others, because the clan-leaded really pissed him off...so he basically wanted to fuck the guy over..since the guy had an ego...for beating everyone, yet his bot was the one doing the actual work for him.

I got to try the bot out, and honestly..it wasn't that fun. When you walk through the map...the bot has instant vision like a normal in-game bot has...where it views other players through wall...and tries to select with player to shoot at, so the vision you see is so shakey, and back n' forth that you really can't see anything well whatsoever. It would take so much practice to actually use the damn thing that it's ridiculous to even use it. It's more entertaining to just play the game honestly.

I took the thing and deleted it...since it was large sized...and I was playing on an old comp with a 10.8GB harddrive back then...I needed the space for other things..honestly. I felt like I was turning my back upon everything that I had ever said about bot users...and how their pothetic.. I definitely got to see that they actually exist though.

I've seen so many people that don't believe that they actually exist and they think that they are just a made-up myth of sorts. They do exist though.

Beating aim-bots are simple for me now though, since it's just like playing the in-game bots on nightmare. If you are playing against one of them, and they have a railgun...you can count on dying. If they don't have a railgun their quite easy to beat.

I used to play quite a lot when the server was busy and creep played. The skill level was usually low on the server (me included) so it may seem that an above average player may be very good. Spectating and watching him play it never once crossed my mind he cheated. It would suck if it was true though as I have some good Q3 memories of that time.

If you had a good time, does it really matter if someone cheated?

To most, someone cheating spoils the game. If you had a good time, it makes no difference.
