I use to rename this dir: textures, material, maps...
Is there a simple way to do that?

He's my bf! ^^
he uses to rename all that dirextories when he put the pk4 into the q4base. To see if the pk4 is loaded correctly when he creates a multiplayer server...or to se if there is some missing textures.
I do the same becouse come times q4 crashes if you have done the pk4 and you still have the .map or .mtr in the maps or materials dirs.

The simplest way to to that with quake 4 would be to install a second copy of quake 4 to another directory somewhere, and place your PK4 into that copy, run it, and see if it's OK.

If we do not rename that directories, q4 crashes!

Wait, what?
Are you saying that when you put the pk4 that you've made into the
second, clean, completely separate Q4 install that you've made, then the game crashes?
Do you get an error message?
I'd say that's probably a pretty good indication that there's something wrong with the pk4...

No, no. With only one installation it crashes if I have the pk4 and the dirs...
But I'm not able to make 2 installation of the same game...
:\

To clarify for everyone else:
What they(?) are trying to say is that he is renaming the directories including custom content when testing the PK4 to prevent file conflicts. The game crashes when they are not renaming directories due to these conflicts.
And to answer your question:
You can't just use the installation software on the CD/DVD since it would have obviously detected that you have it already installed. Instead, explore the CD's/DVD content and copy the files manually to your hard drive, maintaining the proper Q4 directory structure. Copy over all PK4's and EXE's, etc.

Siete molto benvenuti. I'm glad you got your account sorted out.
What I did was just copy my entire existing Q4 install (with no custom content) and just paste it into a new directory, with the root folder named "Quake4 Clean" rather than "Quake4". I did this when I first installed, so I didn't have any trouble making sure that nothing custom was duped.
It's not exactly the most elegent solution, but it seems to work. Obviously start-menu shortcuts or whatever will have to be changed/added.
