type /map mapname in the console...some maps don't appear in the q3 menu.

Yes they are pk3 files and I know the maps run because they ran just fine on my old computer maps such as xcm_tricks2.pk3

yeah, but it's quite odd that only ONE custom shows up. it's not a limit problem.

also, what are you talking about when you said "manually installed". how about referencing another thread if you had problems before.

I put in a command such as "/map xcm_tricks2"(or its xcm_tricks 2 i dont remember but i have tryed both) and it says there is no map by that name but its right there in my baseq3 but my proton (proton.pk3) map works fine..i have only had 2 maps work

open the pk3 file with winzip .. in the maps directory of the pk3 see what the name of the map is .. the map may not be called the same as the pk3.

double-click the pk3 file and open it with winzip.
if winzip fails with an error then maybe the pk3 files are corrupt.

How about trying a map I know is good.
The following is a link you click on:
q3wca2.pk3
---Click it.
Just make sure you are saving the file with the exact name as above.
Also with the extension showing as
.pk3
--- very important.
Make sure when you download the file. You then put it in your
basq3 folder.
Go into Quake3.
Do exactly as Duhard showed you except you open the map you just downloaded.
/map q3wca2
Let us know if that one works?
Edit:
I got one better for you. I did some quick looking on the site I found the first map.
Try downloading the following map:
xcm_tricks2.pk3
---- It's a link... You click it.
Use the same instructions as above making sure you save the file
with an
.pk3 extension.
If you're really confused if your system keeps trying to save the file
with a
.zip as the extension?
Simply rename the file with quotes in front and at the end of the filename. Like I do below:
"xcm_tricks2.pk3"
I think I'm getting way to in depth with this and am probably confusing you more.
I'll stop here.

Read my edit and hopefully I didn't confuse him too much.
They didn't have q3wca.pk3 on there.
