i have a sorta-friend who has well off parents awho pretty much give him everything and he never misses a opportunity to flaunt the stuff he can get with the money he's hand-fed. Im not really jealous but as a more modest guy i find such needless parading pretty lame.
Well anyway we got in an argument when he said how his parents who make $150K/year are rich.
I say you should be rolling in atleast $300K a year to be considered "rich" in America.
what do yall think?

You think earning $150k a year isn't rich? The average wage (I don't know as I'm not form the US) would only be around $30k a year? Anything over 50k would be considered pretty rich.

I have a trim company and trim houses for the rich. 5 to 15 million or more per house. Now thats rich.

150 to 300k is well off, middle class, not rich.

No, it's rich. In USD, 150k-300k/yr is rich. You're confused.

The lowest you can make is around 25 - 30k IIRC. Yeah, anying > 50k I would say is living well.
I made around 10k last year, owned.

I'd consider rich to be entering my pin number in the cash machine and pressing "balance" and seeing whatever figure appears on the screen

It depends on how many costs they have. If you've got kids, you're not going to be living as comfortably as someone with the same income but with no kids.
I'd not consider $150K with kids "rich".

Well, where I live its middle class. If your in Harlem, I suppose its rich. Its easy to make that, I do it every year, but I'm not rich, I just hope to live decent in retirement.

If you have no kids, and you're not married, it's rich. Some places are more expensive to live in than others.

agreed! And its getting very expensive around here. I got fuckers asking for raises almost every day. I gave dollar raises last year and just the price of gas eats that up for most.

Two D.I.N.K.s living together making 50K each is rich, but it does depend on where they live. Some jobs pay ridiculous paychecks that would be a lot less if not for the location you live in order to work there and the local "cost of living" like housing prices etc..
You can still be poor in my books if you consume most of it in wasteful consumption, but hey, if thats the way you want to live, your choice.

Meh, kids or not isn't really that much of an issue. Anyone making 30k a year can support a family.
I'd say anything 30-40k is doing ok, 40-80 is doing well, 80-120 is doing good and anything above 150 I'd concider wealthy and rich is when you have a 7 digit number, anything beyond that is just retarded.

Anything under 10 million is pretty weak.

I'm gonna be rich in about 5-10 years. Thats my plan. 7 digits baby.

Here's one clue: this question would never even occur to most rich folks...they'd consider it laughable as a debate topic. Kids of rich folks don't count since, well, they're kids.

A person who makes 300K a year can easily afford a 360 Modena as a daily driver for getting to the office, as well as an Escalade for getting groceries. 150K will probably roll around in a 545 BMW with an 4.4L X5 for bringing their kids to soccer practice. If thats middle class, then I want to see those cars in your garage, otherwise you're a broke ass slacker.

To me a rich person is someone who can buy anything they want on-the-go, without loans or monthly payements.
I mean like a brand new Mercedes or BMW or like a car for his/her daughter or son.
Well, u know what I mean.

Your post sounded sarcastic the first time I read it, but you may be sincerely making a point. Not sure.

to anyone that earns less than the "average", anyone that earns more than the average is rich.
average also means dick when you have some people earning in the 6 or 7 figures.
we werent poor growing up, but we werent exactly well-off. for example I used to get ~$100-120AU worth of presents at birthdays. I used to get 5 bucks a week allowance. This was normal to me, but Other kids got 10 times this much. They just have a completely different perspective on what is well-off.
its annoying yet amusing when you see a couple on the tv that have incomes more than doubling yours, complaining about the latest interest rate rise and how they are gonna have to cut back on their luxuries to cover the rates on their two properties and their expensive cars and vacations. meanwhile other people have trouble making the weekly food bill.
from my perspective, anyone earning $100k au is plenty well off (~$75k us) and double that is rich. It just depends on what they do with it - if you struggle on $150k US, you've got problems (and deserve a right kick up the ass)
