CPMA won't load

I'm able to play excessive on-line just fine, but CPMA won't work. When I try to connect to a server, it tells me it is awaiting gamestate and then instead of loading the game, it takes me back to the main page. I'm able to play bots, and I'm able to play through LAN, but I can't get on any servers. I just updated PB, but it didn't do anything for me. What could the problem be?
*hmm*

You should be in the Quake3 Discussion forum more than here.
Although you do have a technical problem.
Few things you might look at.
- What version of Quake3 are you using?
- What version of CPMA are you using compared to the servers you're
trying to connect to?
- What does you're console say right after,
it takes me back to the main page
The above are just things I thought of on the spur of the moment.
See what you have and then post your findings.

I'm moving this to Q3 Discussion since you'll probably get help more quickly there.

try moving your z-cpma-pak140.pk3 or whatever the files name is, into your quake 3 baseq3 folder.

Delete your CPMA directory, download
CPMA 1.40 and extract it to your Q3 directory.
You also need the
CPMA Map pack

wow, that fixed it, thanks a lot! i had tried that before but i didn't extract it right.

well, it worked for about 3 minutes and stopped. i updated my punkbuster and everything, but it still isn't working. this time it goes into the game and gives me an error that says
warning: pb kicks for non-characters and all pb restrictions on this server
and immedietly kicks me out. does anyone know whats wrong now?

yeah whatever, just move it into your baseq3 folder.
btw, if you want to play competitively, get 1.40

ya.. moving the 1.40 into the baseq3 folder does nothing for me.

well, assuming youre on Windows, there are a few more things i can suggest:
1. You read the client docs provided with in CPMA
Have fun!

Do not move your CPMA files into your baseq3 only thing that should go there is the CPMA map pack. Set your name in your CFG to something plain like "openyoureyes" don't use any colors or special characters and then try to connect to a server.

I did that and I'm able to go into servers that don't use PB, but the PB servers still tell me the same warning message.

Did you use pbsetup to update pb (you said in main post you update it, but updating via the game is flaky at best).

To perm. save these commands type /pb_writeconfig

Can you connect and play on servers running a different Mod with PunkBuster enabled?

why not? It saves from using command lines which ive never had any luck with. Ever.

mods should always be in their own folder. what are you talking about command lines? bats? or shortcuts with 'fs_game [whatever]'?
a lot of times when connecting to cpma servers via console or in game browser you get kicked to menu with a "missing client" error. this error isnt seen in console when you get kicked though but it is seen by other players on the server you try to connect to. this is probably the case. use all seeing eye or the like to join servers. also, there are maps you need besides those in the cpm mappacks like hub3aeroq3 and ztn3tourney1 on many cpma servers. make sure you have these maps in baseq3.
if you get kicked via pb you will see the pb message via gui or console if you scroll up. you will also get warning messages prior to getting kicked. getting kicked immediately by pb after joining usually means there's a prior ban but you will be informed of this, again, in console and gui.

but see, if my .pk3 promode file isnt in my baseq3 folder, and i try to connect to a CPMA server, Q3 just downloads the .pk3 promode file there anyway

*sigh* I thought prince1000's reply was a very straight-forward
and an excellent explanation...... Guess you have an exception to the rule..............
