My wife and I just bought our first house about 2 weeks ago, we're in the process of sprucing up the place before we move in full time.

Aside for some electrical and networking, paint, and a few upgrades she's a good solid base for starting my army of future Giraffe Hunters. A few G's and about 60 trips to Lowes so far we are coming along nicely.

Here is the pictorial log of the progress

In the process of refinishing the hardwood floors, in a nice Giraffe Pattern :icon30:

Actually just kidding, we're looking at a few samples to get an idea of how they will react to the floor. We're going with the top right stain. :icon26:

A mortgage isn't a lease - do you own a home?

I mortgage is more like a gang rape. Someone runs in takes all your cash and your ass hurts after they are done.

No more new toys for me :tear:

however somewhere in the paperwork it says I own it ... as long as I keep paying the bank :icon27:

You have to come to appreciate the pain.... every sphincter constriction is a tiny bitter-sweet investment. :p

i beat up the banks into getting THE lowest rate

under 4.3

a high rate is a super shanking

Nice rate, but I chose to do 100% financing with an 80/20 loan to avoid the ass raping called mortgage insurance.

I am using wahtever I have saved up for updating and a safety cushion. I will be paying almost 4x the monthly rent payment I am used to.

I hope I'm never in a situation where I have to.

I'm not a fan of debt either, by any means. But this is the first debt I've ever taken on that will hopefully end up making me money.

The gf and I keep a lot of savings held back for emergencies like that though.

one of the coolest thing about buying an older home is discovering the fantastic hardwood under the puke green carpet that the previous owner installed.

the photos are funny too in a sort of "lets hold tools and smile for the camera" kind of way :D :P

Wall to wall carpet was a trend many years ago. I'm happy because they spared the first floor wood. We're on day 2 of trying to repair all the damage done to the bare floos in the upstairs. It looks like the work Golf shoes while doing the electric slide 5 times a day.

My wife is a little slow with the picture taking... and she always yells SMILE instead of taking a candid shot. :icon27:
