Perhaps the custom maps do not have a .arena

great way to initiate someone with that.

he's not going to know wtf that is so how about explaining it a bit more?
partykill, NONE show up? how many customs do you have? perhaps you can try
Mapman. this is a RAR file though, so if you don't use winrar, you can get a trial
here

mapman is the way to go offline! its very easy and it reads any new maps you get as soon as you start it.
also when looking at the maplist you can right-click and choose properties and select whatever mod you want to use and some other stuff i think.

Use your Winzip to open the maps .pk3. I'm assuming you have a Winzip since you opened the zip file that had the map in it =o
In the maps pk3, look at the name of the .bsp file in it...which is the maps name.
You can make an .arena file with a notepad, and end it with themapsname.arena, and throw it in a folder names "scripts", and and drag and drop the folder into a new .pk3 that you made with your Winzip.
example of what you put on the notepad:
{
map "jug3dm1"
bots "Doom Grunt Keel Sarge Wrack "
longname "Fort Frag"
fraglimit "20"
timelimit "20"
type "ffa tourney"
}
--you don't need that Mapman program for these sort of things =)

true,but ive never had a problem with any map as long as its in my baseq3,i have like 400+maps.
im thinking maybe he means the default game map list,it only has room for so many. kinda like the models,if you have a bunch some wont show up.
i was just trying to help the dude

and mapman will show every single map u have no matter what mod it goes with.
also v1|3 is right,some may be in a zip form,so follow his lead

I never have problems like that, because I always have a clean baseq3 folder. I've done to much beta testing over the years to have it be a mess...plus maps that create .shader dilemma's with other maps...and other things of that nature. Minded that I have 200 maps in my Cpma Folder, another hundred in Osp, another two hundred in Team Arena...so on and so on with 60 another mods...
..but, I've never used the in-game menu. It's really not very useful for most things.
To get rid of mapname problems, I make a batch file with a notepad, and name it for example "vanilla.bat"(put it in q3 folder)
put:
start quake3.exe +set dedicated 0 +exec vanilla.cfg
:on it
use notepad again and name it vanilla.cfg(put it in baseq3 folder)
put:
seta sv_hostname "Deathmatch"
seta sv_allowDownload "0"
set sv_maxclients "8"
seta sv_maxPing "0"
seta sv_minPing "0"
set sv_maxRate "25000"
seta sv_pure "0"
set bot_enable "1"
set bot_nochat "0"
set bot_minplayers "0"
set g_spSkill "4"
seta sv_master2 "master0.gamespy.com"
seta sv_master3 ""
seta sv_master4 ""
seta sv_master5 ""
set dmflags "0"
set pmove_fixed "1"
set fraglimit "20"
set timelimit "10"
set capturelimit "5"
set g_allowvote "1"
set g_forceRespawn "20"
set g_gametype "0"
set g_doWarmup "0"
set g_inactivity "3000"
set g_motd ">=)"
set g_log ""
set g_smoothClients "1"
set g_warmup "35"
set g_weaponrespawn "5"
set g_weaponTeamRespawn "5"
set g_filterBan "1"
//seta g_banIPs ""
map pro-q3dm6
:on it
than use notepad and name it my_maplist.cfg (put in baseq3 folder)
and put this on it: (whatever mapnames you have in..this is one of mine)
