need help

I just installed the game havent played in a while i went to play online by going to multiplayer and i hit multiplayer for server and it says no response to master server and led me to this site, please help.
also if you can tell me what some of the downloads do i would appreciate it i havent done andy downloads..if thats a problem i dont know.
