Screen issue at 1280x1024

Hi guys.

I recently switched my Q3 resolution to 1280x1024 and have a strange problem: the game interface does not fit my screen anymore.

See this screenshot (full size here) :

Image

Note the incomplete FIGHT button and the missing right red arrow (cannot navigate to next maps).
Also, the mouse cursor goes off screen when I move it on the right.
The game itself is not affected, only menus and stuff.

Does this look like a known issue? Can it be fixed?

It's probably because the edges of the screen are not aligned correctly. The buttons on the front of the monitor should allow you to do this. Any resolution that doesn't look right, can have the sides adjusted there, and it will save it.

no, no adjusting, the scaleing is simply wrong with 1280x1024, if you have a crt you need 4:3 resolutions, so try 1280x960, 800x600...

I have mine at 1280x1024 also..and have that same deal. My desktop is at 1280x1024 also. It's only like that on the UI menu's though, and it doesn't effect the in-game screen whatsoever...it's kinda stupid. I don't use the menu though, except for the fact that the loading screen in between changing maps has the same cut-off on the right side of the screen. 1024x768 is normal, as 640x480....my question is why ID even put those other resolutions in there to begin with when using r_fullscreen 1. Their only good for r_fullscreen 0... So that's the answer to the question...that has no answer

i know this because i asked arQon himself about it a couple of months ago...

v1|3... the 1280x1024 and resolutions of the same proportion are for widescreens, so if you dont have one, use 1280x960(or any other 4:3 resolutions) with r_mode -1, and r_customheight and r_customwidth if you cant set it in the menu

It can be a bit of both. I have a 19' crt that is not widescreen and 1280x1024 looks fine (it doesn't have that squished feeling) but sometimes I have to adjust horizontal and vertical shapes with the keys on the front of the monitor. Just switching resolutions shouldn't cause parts of the screen to be off-center... but if that happens, it can be easily fixed by adjusting the shape.

OK, thanks all for your advice.

Tried 1280x960: menus are all right but then the Windows taskbar stays on-screen (which may not be such a bad thing after all...)

At the time Q3 was designed, 4:3 resolutions were the rule, and even if 1280x1024 has always been a selectable video mode, developpers probably did not test it much (on their PIII 500 / TNT2 boxes :p).
Since I've not heard of this with wide screens, I assume menus are adjusted to screen height only and I have to live with it.

And yeah, I spend far too much time single playing Q3, thanks for bringing this up...
Railing mobs on q3dm17 is one of my favourite ways to relax after a day at work. :icon32:

Wow..I didn't think people actually played the main menu game that much to add up awards. I just put this in my autoexec for shits-n-giggles, to max out the awards.

seta g_spAwards "\a4\6053\a1\3001\a5\1000\a3\2000\a0\4000\a2\5000"

Heh... I only play scrims...

I cheated my way to this using seta g_spAwards as well. I wanted "2 b a quak god 2".
In fact I'm a lousy player ;)

Normally i play 1024x768 but i did try the setting you mention but the text on the top is too small when message appear, is there a way to make it bigger on vanilla mod ?

hmmm i know theres a command in q1 for seperate console resolution so the text can be bigger.... let me check...

in cpma you can move the console output anywhere you want and make it as big as you want, font, transparecy, display time, everything thats on the hud can be changed...

oh and, 1024x768 is the right scale, anything thats 4:3 is ok

Its sadly not available in vanilla mode, you can only alter the font settings in MODS. etc CPMA and OSP. Came to think of it. Dont think you can change to console font at all, belive it coops with screen resolution.
