so still having issues with "pak0.pk3" and defrag

Hey all, long time no post, etc.

So, for a while I've been having the problem that loading defrag simply boots out quake, leaving the console with the message "Couldn't reopen C:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\baseq3\pak0.pk3 "

CPMA, freezetag, RA3, what-have-you, all work fine, except defrag. I've tried someone sending me their pak0, completely reinstalling quake and then reinstalling defrag, having someone else send me their defrag. Anything I can think of I've tried, but alas nothing has worked.

I just hope someone can shed some light on this and allow me to game again! :)

This is likely to be caused by either a file permission issue or one of the fs_* cvars being set improperly. Have you tried deleting your defrag's q3config.cfg and autoexec.cfg (and maybe your baseq3's too)?

Tried deleting both defrag and baseq3's configs, still get the same error. :(

What command line do you have on your batch file....or are you loading it up from the quake3 Main Screen?

I've tried loading from the All-Seeing Eye and the in game menu. Both give me the error.

A batch file has nothing to to with online play. Like on my defrag.bat(which is made using a notepad) I have:

cd ..
start quake3.exe +set fs_game defrag

The q3config.cfg in either your baseq3 folder or the defrag folder will have nothing to do with the problem your having. Deleting them will make no difference with the problem as they have no relation to this sort of thing.
Do you have multiple versions together in your defrag folder? For example 1.8, 1.9 mixed together.

I have version 1.91.08 and these pk3 files for example:
defrag_cpmmedia
defrag_media
defrag_vm
defragmaps
zMapDefinitionFix
zzShadersFix
zz-defrag_fix_mapscripts_190
zz-defrag_fix_shaders_190
zz-defrag_media_190
zz-defrag_media_191
zz-defrag_vm_191

You could have a pk3 in your baseq3 folder thats messing things up also. Has anything been altered with your pak0.pk3?

Past all that...I'd say reinstall the game. If your still having problems after that then uh...

I tried running it from a batch, but it just did exactly the same leaving me the same error.

Nope, only got the one version and folder in my quake 3 directory and it has been downloaded straight from the defrag site, unmodified - so it definately should have all the correct pk3's.

As mentioned in my original post I've tried deleting and downloading a new pak0.pk3 from a friend with a working one, and I still get the error. :(

Yeah, well I've tried this once, though I don't think it deleted the mod folders, so looks like I may have to do a full complete reinstall and maybe save me hassle in the long run.
