i've got a site

Ok, I had one before... But this one is coller, bigger, better... First and foremost: adding a content to it is easier so expect more updates. It's not visually stunning by any means (I spent less than few hours on the graphic :P). My excuse? Usability, as the gameplay in level design, is the king ;) Seriously speaking I had no time to pimp the site.

For now all you can find there is an info about my released "Q4" maps and some links. Soon I will put some w.i.p. screens, betas, q3 maps, and other stuff (from my trash bin :P). Expect to see controversial (or not) statements in the blog posts ;)

BTW I've noticed that most of the articles and news posts that appear on mappers' sites lie there completely unnoticed. Maybe we (=communnity) should establish a site which would monitor the related sites and, for example, compile a rss feed with the most interesting things?

P.S. Don't miss the PayPal button on the bottom of the page ;)

Cool that you got a site up. Few things though, save your images as .JPG and not .PNG. It will save lots of loading time. Also use [at] for your contact info or something similar to throw off the spam bots that collect emails. I see that you spaced it, but bots are pretty smart nowadays and can remove spaces. Maybe instead of word "Resume" that you use, you might want to use "Key Achievements". It would make more sense.

By the way what does that ninja turtle logo mean? Any specific meaning?

Nice site there Lukin! I like the clean look of it.

Like Method said, the levelshots should really be saved as JPG and probably be no larger than 50kb if they are going to be that small of resolution. PNG is usually better for graphics whereas JPG is better for photos and screenshots. Also, maybe unify your font scheme... the serif (Arial?) is clashing with the sans serif (Times?). Other than that looks good. :)

Yeah, I know PNG sucks for screenshots - don't know why I had used this format. Fixed this and sans serif fonts as well.

Regarding the mail.... Well, spam bots are so clever today that [at] instead of @ doesn't stop them, and I suppose (basing on a number of spam I recieve) that my address is in every spammer database in the world anyway, so I don't care about it that much anymore.

"Key Achievements" has more sense than "Resume" indeed - fixed.

Ninja turtle doesn't have any specific meaning - I like this little bit of silliness in the image :)

dzjepp: nice Polish kung fu skills :icon14:

That already happens, Kat's site has a direct feed to planet quake and dONKEY's site is linked to from lvlworld. All the big boys tend to link to each other.

question on that... Were you going to add a page(s) on your site that is just dedicated to links to other sites? A long time back...2003 or 2004..can't remember, but you set up that site that I had back then, and I had a page that was just focused towards Mapper's sites... Were you going to do that? Reason I'm asking is because I have a large amount of bookmarked Q3 sites... I'm sure that there are some that are dead sites....but it would be a good kickstart for you. I could zip them up if you like.

I dunno if you're aiming more toward Q4 now or not so...

Well, I don't mean a site with just a links or one or two rss feeds. I thought it should be sort of an automatic thing compiling articles from all around the web - like this: http://www.planet-php.net/. Or eventually somethig akin to digg (like this: http://www.devbump.com/) - but of course focused on a level design. It should not be one game or one engine specified - would be great to have a site where mappers from Quake scene could share thought with mappers from UT, HL/CS, Battlefield, Prey, (so on) communities, and with mappers working in the industry on a random games. After all we all will be using the same tools soon (Maya or 3DStudio) and even play the same thing (QuakeWars or Onslaught ;)).
