Ok, for some reason one of my router ports is not getting a connection set-up.

I have used ports 1, 2, and 4 for a long time with 3 computers (they're marked as such on the router). Port 3 was left unused (although it did work a long time ago). When I tried connecting stuff to it recently, Windows gave an error message saying that an IP could not be established or something.

I've tried pretty much everything when it comes to connecting something to it with no luck. My computer always works in one of the other ports though.

I've purchased a new Cat5 cable today and still no luck.

Any ideas?

The port is broken, end of story? If Pc works no problem in on port but not in the other, then there's nothing left to do. Unless you have an ultra expensive router with managed ports, which I'm doubting.

Prolly got some shit in it and now one of the pins is broken, or gummed up.

is it a D-link router by chance?

another case where an empty rj45 connector would have probably prevented this.

Maybe update the firmware.

I tried cleaning it with no luck. The connector looks fine even upon closer inspection.

Is there any tool I could use to split one router port between two PCs? I don't have to be able to use the connection at the same time.

Basically, like taking out the cable from one PC and plugging it into another. Just less cumbersome. Preferably with an on/off connection switch of sorts?
