My dad is thinking of purchasing 5 or more copies of Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.2 for his dental office. He is thinking of buying it because he is sick of paying Norton every year for virus definitions. I told him that Corporate had no yearly subscription service, that LiveUpdate always downloaded new definitions. When I was at the Symantec website and was checking to see the price when I added 5 copies to the cart (the minimum purchase) it said "Additional Basic 12 Month Support for Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.2 for Workstation User...5 at $26.24 each"

So my question is, is this Basic Support just technical support and dedicated phone support, or does this include the LiveUpdate subscription serivce as well? Or does LiveUpdate never need a subscription? I ask you guys because I know some of you work in offices and are familiar with Symantec Corporate.

The support, IIRC, covers both technical support and entitles you to any new release within that time frame. You still want to keep your AV versions up to date since older versions won't have newer security features and will be more vulnerable. IMO, the yearly fee is well worthwhile.

Well I definately see your point, and I agree. The main problem with Norton AV, the end user version, is that when the definitions subscription runs out, it is out and you can't wait to resuibscribe. So the "support" comes with tech support and new releases, but the virus definitions have no subscription timeline, correct Torm?

You may want to look into AVG's corporate solutions also. They provide small-business licensing options which might suit. They still operate on a timed license though.

I'd go with either this or Symantec. Norton makes me want to punch things with how generally sucky it is.
