PS3 on my Monitor.

Well, I have decided that there is no point in getting a ps3 unless I can really play the games in HD.

I do not have the $2,000 necessary to get a nice sweet HDTV plus a ps3 so my next best option would be to hook it up to my computer monitor.

Couple questions:

Most computer monitors make the games look HD cuz of the high resolutions they are capable of correct?

What would I need to buy to make the ps3 compatible to my monitor?

And most importantly, is there a way to have both my computer and Ps3 hooked up to one monitor at the same time?

Sadly I feel like my old dell monitor from 5 years ago is poorly equipped for the above task, but any info is appreciated.
thx.

you need a vga cable for your ps3, dont know if those come standard.

and there are hubs that allowe multiple computers to be connected to one monitor. or, most modern monitors have multiple inputs anyways

thirdly, get a 360

I would like to know the same. My monitor's not widescreen but the height of the picture can be adjusted to widescreen 16:9.

haha, xbox 360 doesnt do anything for me, I am a sony kid all the way. Played my fill of Halo 1 and 2 in college, halo 3 looks like more of the same, no big deal there.

There are only 3 things on the xbox which I am jealous of.
1-Ninja Gaiden (taken care of with the new ps3 version, sweet.)
2-Gears of War (played it at a buddies house, so prettty, and I love fps too. sigh....)
3-Xbox Live (really good integration with all games, PS3 Home looks retarded the more I see it, just give me a damn control panel, i dont want to have to play fucking second life on my console just to play multiplayer)

ANYWAYS LESS NOT MAKES THIS A SONY v. XBOX thread....even though i just did...right.....keep the info to the monitor questions above. thx.

so the vga cable and a hub are all I need, interesting.

I guess to get the true benefits I would also have to be able to convert my screen to that wide screen ratio mentioned above correct?

Also, confused on this point.
I want the games to look "HD" like i have seen at my buddies houses with HDTV. Running the games at the correct resolution on my PC screen will accomplish this?

Do those hubs not decrease picture quality and introduce lag?

correct. your monitor is most likely multiscan which means itll set itself to the correct resolution (e.g. 1280x720 for 720p).
so basically you dont have to do anything other than just hook it up.
and perhaps change a setting in your ps3 but I'm not sure about that

they can decrease quality like any other extenstion would. however, if you get good quality you wont notice the difference.
and no, they don't produce lag, the hub doesnt do anything other than reroute the signal. if it were to up or downscale, then it could cause lag. but they dont up/downscale.

edit: if the monitor has multiple inputs then theres nothing to worry about at all.

But I had some joypad extension cables that produced lag before.

Also, does a good quality hub cost a lot?

technically, 1080p is the better resolution, but there are too many factors to give an absolute answer to the "720vs1080" question. it can depend on your screen's size, the speed objects on the screen are moving, the initial resolution the medium was built/shot for, etc.
for instance, SplinterCell can natively run in 1080p and looks great. however, Dead Rising has some screentearing going on on anything higher than 720p.

bottom line, try them both and see what works for you.
if you dont care that much, set it to 720p to ensure your monitor can handle it and your games are running without any graphical 'problems'.
