Hi all! I've been playing shooters from my 6th (Im 18 now) and almost always played them without tweaking a bit..
Now, with Q3 it became a different story as I changed my FOV. I didnt tune my game out more though but I'm getting better and better .. so I'm curious what the possibilities are, how you play Q3 online (as in,what things have you changed off the default value) and what stuff is a MUST to change (as you're FOV)?
I've heard/read about people changing the brightness of levels and having fullbright characters with a perfect hitbox-model in forced mode which maximizes ur chances to hit. Don't you think forced models take away the fun of recognising certain players from a distance? Ofcourse I could imagine the benefits in competitive play if thats legal iac.
Anyway, what have you changed off the default while playing online? :icon28:
For me:
* fov 110

Hi :-) I've tweaked just about anything you can tweak.

Here are some basics, mostly for better visuals:

/cg_drawtimer 1
/cg_drawfps 1
/cg_drawping 1
/cg_shadows 0
/cg_gibs 0
/cg_noprojectiletrail 1
/com_blood 0
/r_gamma *value* (makes screen brighter)
/cg_fov 115
/sensitivity *value* (mousesensitivity)

Nice site for more tweaks:

edit: I don't know what mod you play, so this is just baseQ.
The force enemy model thing (p/e bright green skin on the keel model) can not be done in BaseQ.

quite interesting!!
I just tried the gibs 0 and blood 0 and it really helps in large deathmatch games.
You guys seem to set some stuff at other values so I guess it takes a lot of finding out what works best for yourself. Thx for the URL CyAne.

edit: i just do baseQ and openarena - is it possible to have forced glowing skins in openA? (I hope Im now swearing with OpenArena? xD Just wanted to see it actually )
One last thing, does OpenArena save your variable settings after changing them and /quit the game? Because I can imagine stuff like soundtweaks changing back to the default again...

fov 110 and maxfps 125 or 142.

the rest is part of the game. and indeed, its a lot more fun to see the orbb model from afar and knowing it's so-and-so who's going to catch your rocket :)

When set to 1, it shows blood when you shoot someone. For a 0, it doesnt show blood at all, so in some games that would mean that owning hard isnt ruining your vision of the map :p

com_blood 0 on a server makes it more annoying as corpses become actual solid obstacles for projectiles

but at least they dont obstruct vision too much

There's alot that can be changed cvar-wise, but these are the standard ones that I've always used...actually..I suppose their the primary ones that should be used for the quickest gameplay..

cg_crosshairHealth "0"
cg_draw3dIcons "0"
cg_drawAttacker "0"
cg_drawRewards "0"
cg_forceModel "1"
cg_gibs "0"
cg_marks "0"
cg_noProjectileTrail "1"
cg_noTaunt "1"
cg_oldPlasma "1"
cg_oldRail "1"
cg_oldRocket "1"
cg_scorePlums "0"
cg_shadows "0"
cg_smoothClients "1"
cg_trueLightning "1.0"
com_blood "0"
r_detailtextures "0"
r_fastsky "1"
r_gamma "1.3" //to use this you need to have r_fullscreen "1"..to change in between 1 and 0 in-game you have to type in \vid_restart
r_picmip "5"
r_vertexlight "1"
rate "25000"
snaps "40"

I've never used cg_fov..or most of the others...I figure if I keep on winning then it seems to be working fine with that..
