HELP! quake freezes

ok so i downloaded quake full as you all know you can download pak0 and the pointrelease and it works...well it has before my prolbem is that when i go to play and the id logo/starting video comes up i click to go to the menu and it freezes. ive tried waiting it out but then the screen is all black ... please help me!

Go buy the god damn game....at the price they sell it, it's a joke....
