okay. i have this broken external hard drive.... can i just use the case from the external drive and buy an internal drive and just swap it? do i need any extra cords or anything?

You should be able to swap it out with any IDE drive....if that's the connectors it's using to the actual drive. Just hook up the cable and the power and put er back together and begin filling it with porn.
