Possible upgrade plans

It seems at uni I only have one month's rent to pay this semester, which means i can spend a little money somewhere.

I've calculated about £400 I will have aside, so I'm either thinking computer upgrade or laptop. Currently I have:

Athlon XP 3200+
1gb DDR 3200
9800 Pro
200gb SATA

etc...

It can be a bit of a drag taking my computer back home, hence why I might get a laptop. The only problem is, if i get a laptop i dont think I would use it that much other that doing stuff in bed / taking it home on the 3/4 major breaks i get to go home at.

So what do you guys think? Or is my system fine for a while yet.. I kind of feel left out with a lack of 64bit processors.

Desktop machine and a decent pendrive for going home. There's another PC there I guess?

Yeah my rents have an old 500mhz machine and my bro has a xp2400+ setup.

However..

my bro is compelled to have Linspire installed as his only OS, and its such a pile a wank I cant work on it.

So use your parents' machine.

For £400 you won't get a decent laptop. You'll get a no-battery-life, slow, graphics-incapable pile.

For that, you may as well use your parents' 500Mhz machine when you go home.

I've experienced this first hand, with a very similar set of circumstances.

However my rents use their computer a lot and its far to sluggish to run all my shit on there :(.

Then buy a smaller case for your current PC and a flat panel monitor. Anything left over, send on a graphics card or new CPU. Everything else you have is fine.
