The fact that the community is still here after 8+ years means we're still doing pretty well. What are you doing these days?
BTW, whatever happened to that castle_power map?

hehe I don't think I am exaggerating.. lol.. ok 3 years at least...
Castle_power.. well it has still yet to ever be released I think. mostly because I was on and off so many different projects ect. Its now dead because it became a possible Quake 4 level then didn't make the cut so to speak and is now sitting someplace..
poor map... lol..
Maybe I should look for it again. if I recall I might still have the version for quake 4 kicking around someplace.. to be honest I don't even remember all of the details that happened with that map anymore. I most likely am not allowed to release it either even if I did find it.
8 years man.. wow..

I think I still remember a few names from people back in the day when I was posting here all the time too.
Imo im just bored and looking for something to do so I thought I would say hello here.

Actually I remember now what happened to Castle power..
I made the age old mistake of taking a comunity map I was messing around with and showing it to people at work.
I then made a version of the level for the project I was working on.
I had some issues with the level.. (one of them being it was once a quake 3 level lol...)
So I replaced the level with Firewall.
Castle power would have been Firewall if I didn't decide to just start over from scratch. So Firewall killed Castle_power... And I suppose that is exactly what happened to that level....
I can only hope that Firewall doesn't suck also!!

Once I can figure out how to get access back to my website I want to update it. ill see if I can have permission from Id to release the level for free. The level was nearly done last time I uploaded it to perforce lol..
I really want to get my community website back in action though but im not sure who to talk to right now or if they will even let me. The sight is just sitting there.

I'm planning to kick my own ass into gear for awhile. Im sick of not working on real level design stuff anymore and its taking its toll on me in the worst ways. I cant even remember the pipeline for designing my own textures for quake 4 anymore..
Ill be around for a little while at least I think. I'm planning to spend more time just building stuff for games in the community for awhile because I need the practice.

Was gutted when I heared about the takeover

Making casual games is not somthing for a guy with your talents.. Took me years to get to the level you got to in just a few months of working on Gen. Hope you get back to doing the stuff you love soon mate

I'm actually working on a quake 4 level right now and have some new textures made.
How many more of the guys from wirehead are still lurking the quake community these days?

Pho & Con are still maintaining the WHS site and forums from the looks of it (Pho is also quite big on some of the quake code forums now I believe), not seen Lee in years. I think that Warden & Kenny are still doing their server hostig thing, Kilt went pro as you probably know. Nic Hex vanished years ago, and I have no idea what that Mykul guy is up to.

I read the "Interview" with Levelord just after the takeover, which put good spin on stuff, but sounded like a forced statement to everyone I know. That and the pain of hearing the phrase "Project on hold indefinately" being used with reference to SiN Ep 2.

ate my life away too. I have 3 level 75 jobs in FFXI with capped merits... I wouldn't go back and take it all away because of the insight playing an mmo can provide to how video games are in so many ways but I have recently resigned from playing FFXI. Its been about a week now.. lol.. and I already have a small texture set and a quake 4 level in the works. lol...
As far as the merger.. meh I haven't excepted anything aside from the fact that I am going to waste now and I am not happy anymore at all with work. Its just not what I do and I don't want to be there anymore.. I thought I would give it a try though, its not for everyone thats for sure..
As far as ambition and arrogance though I think I have leveled out these days. I'm good at what I do and that is all that needs to be said. hehe I OWNZ()R J000000!!!!!!! lol...
thought coming back, I think might need to slaughter a goat to be able to update my website. And the quake community.. my god one of the hugest problems with online communities anymore is the fact that it is literally almost impossible to download a file with out paying for it. I feel like if I want to download something I have to go all over the internet and look at hundreds of pop up adds and complicated web sites for hours on end in hopes I might be able to download a level or patch for quake 4. lol..
I suppose it goes with out saying that if I want to have a community website where I can just make levels for games that people can download for free I need to buy my own web space or something these days. even if I do go through lacedneptune again I would still need to put my levels up on file planet. >.>
I suppose that isn't such a bad thing per say however maybe I am just old fashioned now that I don't agree with almost forcing people to pay money to have access to download files that should be for free.
Anyway im going to see what I can do to get lacedneptune back. Anyone got a spare goat I can barrow? hahaha!

I'm going to try and see if I get a response from Pappy-R before I try and move to another location. I'm going to give him a couple of days and see what happens..
I'm pretty sure right now that I am overreacting about slaughtering a goat. I'm pretty sure the goat is a formality and I can eat it afterwards.

no harm done right? LOL...
all is good atm. However if I don't get a response ill gladly check out that sight! :icon32:

Castle: All my files go on filefront.com these days, it's free and you don't have to que up or jump through hoops to get at the files. Failing that there's loads of cheap hosting around, you can get 2gb storage and 100gb /month transfer for under $10/month. just google budget host reviews or somthing similar.

Soon maybe next weekend ill have some screen shots of my new quake 4 map.
I contacted Pappy-R for my website and thought things would go smoothly to get laced neptune access again then all of a sudden the tech I was speaking with simply stopped responding to my emails lol...

ehh..
I'm almost done detailing my new quake 4 level and just got a shock..
the working directory is 256 megs exactly.. so strange its exactly 256 megs..
my models directory is 7 megs
And my texture directory is umm.. lol 177 megs. Granted my working base materials I use for rendering out images are in the back of that dir.. this is still A LOT more megs than I was expecting..
then I was like.. "that doesnt add up" then I realized I had dk_q4ctf1.pk4 in the same DIR... lol that wasnt helping..
will people even download a level thats 100megs these days LOL...
Its a fairly small map too ; ;
