Why cant i host a game of Quake 3.
I goto
Multiplayer
Select Internet at the top and all the severs show up
I press create
Set it up as not dedicated and pure server and then fight
As its loading i see it say connecting to local host. I mean whaa???
I can connect to my friends who do the exact same thing but i cant host anything, i am running the new point release.
Please help, its urgent.

if it says "connecting to localhost" it just means its starting up the server+client for you to play.
your friends should be able to join by specifying your ip

Well they cant for some reason, it just says awaiting challenge for ages. And also, some ip sites give my ip as one that starts with 60. and other places give me one that start with 220.
Im in Australia and my isp says that the 60. is my WAN one, what does all this mean exactly?

the WAN ip is the one you want to give your buddies. go to gameadmins.com and check out the guides there.

Well, the ports where meant to be opened already, so i opened a UDP port that Quake said it couldn't access.
I also dont have a firewall apart from the windows one where i opened the port.

Go to whatismyip.com
Make a note of the IP it gives you.
Then go to start

Run

Type 'cmd'

enter 'ipconfig' in the black box

note down the IP Address here too
If these 2 IPs are different, it could be 1 of 2 things:
1. You're wrong and you do actually have a router which you're using to connect to the internet.
2. Your ISP makes you surf via a proxy, in which case you might not be able to make a game connection at all.

more pertinent is the isp, as some of them here in oz will not let you host games.

The website portforward.com should guide you through this if you need to do it.
