I'd probably go buy a new guitar. TV is a waste of life.

if you have space, get a rear pro. if not, a samsung LCD, M87 if it's within budget or R87 if it's not.

The key differance between the M87 and R87 series is the 1080P functionality, but technologies such as super clear panel make a huge differance to the apparant contrast of the unit too, so if you had a toss up between a 46¨ R87 and a 40¨ M87 I'd go M87 personally (but some people are more obsessed with size than quality so hey *shrug*)

I have a 55¨ Sony SXRD Rear Pro, I believe the model I have has just been replaced in the states (KDS-55A2020 -> KDS-55A3000). Rear pro's offer the best combination of size, quality (precision), contrast and often produce the best picture from standard SD sources. Down side is the size of them, not bad if you're placing them on a TV stand but impossible to wall mount or terrible if you're crammed for space.

all i know is i have to turn the backlight right down and turn the auto level because it's so bright.

Yea, I think every manufacturer measures it in their own way. You can even see screens using the same panel with the same backlight getting different contrast values from different manufacturers

sammy's next gen claim to have 100'000 : 1 with the LCD back. you would of thought ISO force a standard.
