Shutting down a PC just after playing FPS is not a good idea

Assuming you've just had fun playing with extremely resource-demanding FPS games...
If you shutdown your PC now, the GPU is still hot and its cooling fan stops.
Isn't it a bad idea?

Yes, it's a bad idea for both the GPU and CPU. Best thing is to leave it idle for a couple of minutes. My
Enermax PSU has a function to fix this, the fans keep spinning for at least 2 minutes (temperature controlled) to create airflow.

Ahh, that's why.
A few days ago I was drinking giga gallons of beer while spectating bot match of ut2004 @ full quality.
About 5 hours later, I noticed that I was asleep and just noticed ut2004 was still running.
I turned off the PC then went to bed.
Now I've experienced mal-behaviour of my GPU and just posted here...
hmm, you have such a fan equipped.
Hardcore!

Good thing I always have a tendency to do light work/surfing after a heavy gaming session.

@CaptainMazda
Gamers need to have such a practice.
But filefront should be avoided while light surfing.
It somehow mal-consumes the CPU.

Yeah, I don't shut down my system. The occasional warm boot for updates and such, or to switch from xp to vista and vice/versa.

That's surprising.
Sounds rich.

only really a concern if you're on air... i've been noticing on my machine that by the time games are done exiting and reloading the desktop the water has already brought my temps down to idle.

I know some hardcore people use water cooling.
But it's way too expensive.
