cannot read drive

Trying to backup a program on windows 98 and using the cdrw drive to do it. But when I click to backup, it says drie not ready, retry, cancel, fail.
Know ehat this means?

If you're trying to use the windows built-in backup, win98 does not have built-in CD burning. You'll need to run some "Packet Writing" software to mount a blank disc as writeable, and then do it.
If you're using some other backup software, you'll need to be more specific as to what all you're using and at what point it's failing.

As much as I know.
It has Nero on it, but it is an older ms access program, from '95 I think. It has a backup shortcut on the desktop with a MSDOS icon. When you click on the daily backup, it opens the smalll black window [DOS} and looks like when you are writing to a floppy.

Has it previously been working to back up to a CD in this manner?

Yes. It has INCD installed also, if this matters.
