ok, been using this card with this motherboard for almost a year now with latest drivers. saw a link for beta creative drivers and figured eh wth. if it goes bad i can always format. also updated latest vid drivers too (162.18 forceware for 7600 GT) along with new directx patch, from late august.

well, started getting random freezing and weird buffer errors or sommat so i figured i would go back to previous creative drivers. could have been from dx update as well but i figure i would start with the beta drivers. uninstalled beta and reinstalled a release from oct. 30, 2006 but it never finishes. once it gets to ha20x2k.sys, BSOD. dual booting with vista right now so i deleted all instances of that file from xp install and was able to boot back into xp. went to reinstall beta drivers, all goes well except no sound. everything says x-fi is installed correctly and functioning but no go. volume slider doesnt move in cp>sounds and check boxes to enable icon in tray is grayed out. reinstalled many times.

did a search and found this to be a problem when both pieces of hardware came out but i didnt combine them until a year after release and never had a problem with this system since i built, until a couple weeks ago. updated to latest bios for motherboard and still no sound.

really dont want to format now tho. any other suggestions?

:olo: Creative. The way that company functions and the products that they sell, I'm amazed they are actually still in business.

Regarding your haxor.sys file:

I googled around an seems as if lots of people are getting BSOD's because of that file.

Doesn't sound like there's much you can really do, just a really unstable driver. I assume you tried a system restore back to before you installed the beta driver? Did you try installing it manually (not from .exe)?

duh i put it in pci slot 3 and used the driver utility in the beta package to remove everything creative and it worked on next reinstall. dont know why the older wlhq driver worked for almost a year and then not. mustn't have completely uninstalled.
