Transfer speed between 2 computers?

Mine seems a little slow. Vista says it's doing 9 MB/sec.
I think it should be transferring much faster.

You got fiber optic between them?

Try to remember a Byte is 8 bits. 10mbit/s is a shade over 1MB/s.

Oh, also, there's "tcp overhead". Meaning some of the actual data that's transmitted isn't the files/data you're sending, but tcp traffic info. So actual data xfer speed is always lower than connection speed.

As creep says. A very rough guide is:

1Mbit = 100k per second
10Mbit = 1Mb per second
100Mbit = 10Mb per second
1Gbit = 100Mb per second.

Reality makes this a bit different though, most gigabit devices won't reach those speeds due to limits in other areas (disk io, processing power) and quality of the cable becomes a much bigger factor at gigabit speeds too.
