I have a desktop with xp pro, sp2 and a laptop with xp home, sp2. I have a wireless router [Belkin]. I have an Internet connection and I can receive email. But, I cannot send email. Keeps giving a message that smtp port 25 cannot be reached or something like that.

Now if I plug a wired connection into the computer, I can send email. Only seems to be a problem with the wireless.

Is it a simple thing like the router is bad? If so, why do I have an internet comnnection and why can I recieve email?

I have reset the router to defaults, as it was working fine until a few days ago.

Also test both computers on wireless and wired and post results.

I have googled these numbers with no results. When I connect with wired connection everything is fine. I have called the ISP [Telus] and they dont know shit.

I have also tried Thunderbird with the same results. Mainly using Outlook Express

Or do you mean "my pc on a cable works fine, my laptop on wirless does not".

Generally port 25 errors are caused by your ISP blicking outbound port 25 to prevent spammers from using their network. In which case you can only send outbound mail through the ISP's mail server, regardless of where you're getting incoming mail from. This is also most common with laptops because you may have it configured for your mail account at work/school.

YES! It does not make sense. Why is JUST the wireless portion causing this? Same router, same everything but with a cable and it works fine. Unplug the cable and use wireless and it doesnt work. Internet works, receive email works, but send email doesnt.

What's the model of your belkin router?

Edit - I only see one belkin router on their site that has any kind of firewall. They seem to have no model numbering scheme, but the part # is F5D7230-4. If that's the one you have, go in the setup and disable the SPI firewall and see what happens.

Sounds more like your firewall is blocking things.

If my firewall is blocking this, why can I connect and send email when I phycially plug a cable in instead of using wireless? Same rouiter, same settings, same computer ; just cabled instead of wireless. Is there a different firewall for wireless or something?

Depends entirely on what firewall you have installed.

Norton and windows firewalls can be active on one connection and not on another, for starters.

Oh OK. I have tried disabling windows firewall and I have AVG installed. No other firewall software. I have tried disabling AVG email scanner as well.
