Im starting to get pissed!
I downloaded the 1.32 patch from idsoftware.com and put it in the baseq3 folder and when i start the game i get the message "couldn't load default.cfg" WHAT SHOULD I DO?!

It has to be installed...

Anyway, you said "put it in baseq3", sounds like you just put the file you downloaded in there.

The patch installs into the folder where you installed Q3, which is one up from /baseq3.

the "cannot load default.cfg" problem sounds more like a general q3 problem then the patch itself.

i installed and ran the program
and i did not have this problem before. I've been playing it for ages.

Did you read the rest of my post and confirm that you installed the patch in the proper place? Have you removed the files from your first patch install, which are all in the wrong place?

default.cfg is part of pak0.pk3 which is part of the original Q3A installation, so it's not the patch.
You'll need to reinstall Q3, then install the patches. Actually the patches might stay installed so you might not need to install them again.

Edit: You might just be able to copy pak0.pk3 from the Q3A CD into your baseq3 folder. That would be quicker than reinstalling Q3A; unless Windows copies files differently than when they are installed.

You should check you have all the pk3s in your baseq3 folder, though, in case something's happened to the others aswell. You should have pak0 to pak8.pk3 if you have all the patches installed. If some of them have gone missing, you should reinstall Q3.

You need the following files in the following places:
AnyFolderName\quake3.exe
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak0.pk3
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak1.pk3
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak2.pk3
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak3.pk3
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak4.pk3
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak5.pk3
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak6.pk3
AnyFolderName\baseq3\pak7.pk3


That's all you need. If you then run quake3.exe and it doesn't work, fuck only knows and you must have properly fucked something up.
