does anybody see these people online? I mean, in servers or anything? All those people that dont read the stickies and post about help for getting their Quake 3 to work online, does anybody at all hear from them ever again?

I think we all know the answer.

IMHO the question ur asking should be what to do to change that, shouldn't it?

not at all, the existence of these people indicates that people want help to play the game, or continue to play the game, which can ONLY be a good thing.

What im asking is how high the probability is that its just the one guy making multiple accounts to mask his ineptitude to work out a simple enough game of Quake.

Well, I have to admit you have a point there.

Tho I think u should reconstruct the first question. I have a different nickname in-Game, (the one was taken here), I don't play in the servers most of u guys do (cuz of lag). And I still consider myself a quake fanatic and rly love the game. So the fact that u don't see me online doesn't mean I don't play Arena.

i realise that, and i respect that people probably wont use the same alias for foruming as they would for gaming. It raises the question of why someone would go to that trouble, though... To conceal themselves even further by having a second name, i mean

Ya i think lots of peoples play quake on previous version, that way they don't need a legit copy to play...

By the way i use the same name when i play...

if I play with my name as v1l3, I end up getting stuck with players that would rather talk than play..especially if their promode or custom map players
I'm dial-up anyways so I can't play anything but instagib..otherwise lag-fest 370 ping against 20 ping--and a big good luck.
All the different constant changing names, their all of the same players imo. When they talk to me, it seems that they had started between 2000-2004, doesn't really matter much though. All of the one-timers here make very little sense to me. You'll get much more/better help if people know you. I wouldn't know half of what I know otherwise.

My thoughts exactly, Vile, though i must say, this community happily (lol) helps these no-names with their problems. And yeah, im in Aus, so i cant join in with the healthy European Quake scene :(
