HD-DVD over component

I haven't taken my Toshiba A2 out of the box, yet. Do regular (non 360 add-ons) HD-DVD players show 1080i over component, or is HDMI required?

That would depend on the player.
It is possible to do, yes.

yes, it will work.
its 1080P that it may not do over component, but it will play via HDMI. (usually, there has been some that can do 1080P over component )

I did a bit more reading since the OP, and it seems like the industry could turn on down-sampling on a per-title basis at any time for non-HDMI connections. I forget the exact resolution, but I think it is something like 640p or 540p.
Regardless, I'll have this risk if I use the 360 add-on or a standalone player until I upgrade my TV.
