High Tech computer of 2004

Exactly 53 years ago, a group of scientists got together, and they came up with a design for a computer of the future.
In 2004 they told us the computer would look like this;

What is the giant steering wheel for?

They had no concept of 3D games back then. No first person shooters, and Call of Duty 4 would have been unimaginable. I can only begin to imagine how computers would look like 50 years from now, but I'm pretty sure that the keyboard, mouse and the widescreen displays are here to stay, with an exception of maybe having 'holographic' displays, that aren't physical, but rather projected. However, the games they will have. Things that they are going to consider entertainment on the PC will be so amazing. The games of today will look like Wolfenstine 3D in comparison. Can't wait.
