Can i upgrade the RAM in my laptop?

i want to upgrade my Sony VAIO. i have 512mb now. can i buy and install more RAM myself or do i have to send it off to a company?

what model?
is it still under warrenty?
download and run CPU-Z and see if both memory slots are full, ( usually they are, 2X256 for a 512mb config )

Installing more memory in laptops is generally a simple process. It usually involves locating the panel used for access to the memory modules on the bottom of your laptop--and using a screw driver to open it. From there you an just remove/insert the memory modules by hand.

Cool down is right, but that is usually only the case for one of the sticks..
some Manufacturers put the other stick under the keyboard.
