Quake3World

My game worked fine but when I updated it to latest version and try to launch it, only thing I get is white screen and tilt. Console doesn't say anything went wrong but I just can't run Q3 anymore Does anyone know how I would fix this? I've tried to reinstal but it doesn't help me.

make sure any anti-virii/firewall app is letting quake get to the internet.

this has been covered tons of times, use the Search function next time.

I updated pb to the latest version. But it still gives me that white screen when I try to run Q3. When I check the task manager it shows Q3 isn't responding.

If you're starting q3 from a shortcut, make sure the shortcut has the proper "Start in" folder setting. (should be your main q3 installation folder, NOT \baseq3)

Alternatively, try opening your q3 folder and directly double-clicking quake3.exe

Done, still not working. And firewalls are also ok.

But I'm wondering that I have DirectX 9 graphic card, could it make this problem.

I'm guessing you don't have an internet connection active when you start Q3.

What happens is the new anti-cheat stuff (Punkbuster) tries to contact a server when you start Q3. If it can't it hangs there in limbo for about 60-120 seconds then eventually it will let you through to the menu.

You can fix this by going into c:\program files\quake iii arena\ and renaming or deleting the 'pb' folder.

If you do get rid of it, remember you'll have to name it back if you ever want to play on a pb-enabled internet server.

That's the only cause of the white startup screen I've ever come across.

Leave it sitting for about 2 full minutes and see if it lets you through to the menu.

I get white screen with "r_smp 1"
Search your quake3 folder for "q3config.cfg" files, edit them and change r_smp "1" to "0".

Try getting the latest drivers for your video card? Also, do you any problems with other games?

And sorry to be redundant, but you said firewall was 'ok' did you try launching Q3 with it completely disabled/closed?

Sry for long time afk. So.... I tried to leave it loading... didn't work. r_smp was already 0. Cooldown... I don't never turn my firewalls off. I got very bad experiences for that (over 10000 viruses/worms etc when I did that last time.) I try to update my drives when I got more time, right now I'm really busy in school. But I'm pretty sure they are out of date. And I don't have problems with other games, Q4, CSS and others work fine.

Disconnect your network connection on the computer *completely*, then try starting quake.

hey, i am a q3 player and wanted to experience gameplay once again since i now have an internet connection...i updated q3 with point...whatever and my screen goes blank and then the console says that the server did not have a CD. i have the cd but why did it not let me start a server or run q3?

You need to more specific about what you installed and what error messages you got because our ESP is weak.

Pull down the console (the tilde) and look in the bottom right corner, it'll say what point-release you're running, which should be 1,32c. If it isn't, download and install the PR again.
