Wireless keyboard connectivity :/

Eesh.. just got a wireless keyboard/mouse combo (microsoft laser 6000 v2) - set up as per instructions to Vista, mouse is connecting with no worries but the keyboard is nowhere to be found.

Trouble is, the 'wireless status' for the keyboard is high, as is the battery... so I've no idea what goes on. (tried resetting the frequency etc.. no joy).

When i put in batteries (tried several sets now) the battery indicator on the keyboard lights up green and then fades after a few seconds.
Hoping there's some dumb obvious way that this has to be 'switched on' first so i don't have to return it :/

There isn't anything around to mess up the connectivity (RF etc), not in a block of flats etc etc - and anyway the mouse is getting received perfectly :(

If it's PS/2 and you jacked it in while the machine was on, you might have fried the port. Do other keyboards still work on it?

The wireless receiver is USB, and it's for both the mouse and keyboard. At the moment I'm just using the old ps/2 keyboard.

Is this one of those receivers with two USB jacks, one for the mouse and one for the keyboard? If so, try swapping the ports, one of them might be defective. Does it work on another PC?

nope, single usb port - one receiver for kb & mouse. I don't have another pc to plug it into.

keyboard was faulty - direct replacement works like a charm.
