hmmmm or do I just add a wireless switch to my existing 4 port wired router?
does adding a switch to a router slow everything down?

No, but it could overcomplicate things.
To add-on, you're looking for a "WAP", wireless access point.
Or replace your existing router with whatever.
As for print server... assuming you're running all Windows, I'd pick the PC that is on/available most often, plug the printer into that, and use windows sharing.

Yeah dlink are fucking trash. Belkin seem better but they put out bullshit products in other areas (KVMs especially) so beware.

Hmmm this is getting confusing...the 2 PCs that are used most often, are in a room with no available space for a printer.
The next choice is my living room, which my dogs sleep in, and I am guessing that dog hair and printers are not a good combination.
The final choice is my spare room, which isnt used for anything.
I think the hard part is not choosing a router, but choosing a decent position for my printer, without rearanging my entire house.

agreed. belkin's wireless products are pretty good, but as you pointed out, they've got some utter garbage in other areas.

Do you actually need it to be 8-ports? I'm assuming that some of these computers are going to be wireless in which case, all you need is a 4-port router with wireless which will allow 4 wired ports and several additional wireless connections.
4 port wireless-G routers with USB print server:
Netgear FWG114P Prosafe
D-Link DPR-1260
Wireless print server only (for use with existing wireless router - also means you can stick your printer virtually anywhere):
Linksys WPS54G

ahhh i see....the 4 ports are 4 physical ports, plus some wireless connections? that sounds fine.. I want my Xbox plus 2 other PCs wired, and 2 other PCs wireless. thanks
