Well, I found one today and went ahead and bought it.

Aside from Mario, Metroid, and Zelda, are there any other gems that a person who doesn't follow the odd Nintendo titles that closely should look into?

Guitar Hero obviously, but you've probably already got that for the 360 if you want it (it's cheaper for the Wii).

There are two flight/dog-fight games that are fun but I can't remember the titles of them. I rented both of them and couldn't decide which I liked better. In advanced/sim mode you can use the Wii remote like a flight stick, it's a blast.

Battalion Wars 2 looks good but I haven't played it yet.

I know of Heatseeker and Wing Island. Both which supposedly aren't very good.

Even though Resident Evil 4 has been out for the other consoles, it's quite different on the Wii and has a much better aiming system and IIRC a few extra bonuses.

And aside from the usual suspects listed, I second Lego Star Wars. Anything with the words "Lego" and "Star Wars" independently is a guaranteed winnar so when you put them together...

been playing Paper Mario this week - pretty fun, but lots of dialog to click through and a couple yawn-erific block puzzles

the dialog in that super paper moron game is god awfully lame...

most of it is designed to be lame... it's as if it were a big joke about how lame mario games have always been. unfortunately they go too far... a little too "get it? get it? look, we're cool. get it?" barf.
