Hey Flip,

Welcome to the forums. First thing you will need to do is read up on the FAQ threads at the top of the forums and make sure you get a legit copy of the game and are all patched up with the latest patches etc, so you are ready to rock and roll. Get yourself a thirdparty game server browser as well as the ingame one for Q3 is and always has been a waste of space unless you are using it for a local lan connection. It's really important to learn to use the FAQ's here and the search feature of the forum before posting a question that's probably been asked a thousand times before. People round here can get a little touchy about that :p.

Quake 3 is a much more purer (purer does not mean better, they are two different games) in terms of FPS gameplay than the UT series. So expect to spend some time learning the finer details of gameplay. Strafe jumping and circle jumping, map and item control should become second nature to you if you are to even think of competeing.

After 9 years the players left playing are almost all seasoned vets and have absolutely no trouble whupping Nightmare bots like they are the lowest standard of play. So expect to get owned a lot yourself to start with, and don't go accusing people of cheating, if you haven't seen quake movement in full swing you're going to be in for a big shock. I'd suggest you download some quake 3 movies to see just how fast movement in this game really is. Then, if you can cut it and last the distance, then you might be able to own some players yourself.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and I'll try to help or point you in the right direction.

FoRa!

F1.
except......
most of the faq's are royally borked since riddlas meltdown, makes it hard to point newcomers to the faq's when the links dont work

might need a mod *cough^misantropia^cough* to take the time and fix them.

oh and.......
welcome to the boards FlipOMaTiC :D

Aye, working on it. I had the bright idea to look up Q3W in the Wayback Machine and lo and behold, it's archived most of riddla's posts (up to December 2006 anyway, and not much has changed since then).

I may not be on it for a couple of weeks cus i just moved in my new house. Thanks foralarx for all the help. You will hear from me soon
