i'm lookin for somthing ot make an image of my laptop harddrive to store on a DVD or summat.

the Lappy itsself has no drive, no network card, no nothing.. so it was rather fun getting windows on it and i dont quite want to do it again :)

i have norton ghost 12 here, and that is basically turning out to be useless, and i cant find my old copy of Ghost 7/8

is there anygood apps out there?

What's wrong with ghost?

I guess I haven't used 12, but as far back as 5 it would write to most DVD burners. I currently use 8 and have no issues with it.

What I'm curious about is... if the laptop has no removable storage or network... where are you going to put the image?

heh, :)

i wish i could find my copy of 8, that would be awesome..

Anyway, i would remove the drive from the lappy, and image it wile its connected to my main desktop then back it up to a DVD.

Gotcha.

Well anyway I've never used anything but ghost. Been using it since 2001 and haven't needed anything else, so I got nothing else to recommend.

Acronis Trueimage is pretty good. Doesn't have an issue with some RAID volumes, which is the one gripe I have with ghost.

Foo's pretty much got it. Acronis True Image seems to be the best choice at the moment. I'd suggest you look at Paragon Drive Backup as well.

BTW here are some reviews:

Shweet, i am gonna check those out..

though, i would lean more towards the Paragon software due to its "self extracting" feature.

it would be nice to start an EXE and image the drive rather then installing an app and then restoring the drive. :)

I believe that only will do striped raid's and not mirrored. Well it can do mirrored, but then you have to repair it by putting in the windows cd.
