Im sorry if i wasted anyone's time by posting this question,but if someone can help me........it would b gr8.

My friend made a non dedicated server, but when i join it,i keep getting dis "Invalid/mistyped cd-key" error even though i haven't entered any.
Ientered one, it said cd key is valid.but the "invalid cd key" shit won't go away.

Slight addendum: if the message still pops up, pull down the console and type '/timescale 100'.

So i ve searched my entire hard disk but couldn't find that damned q3key file.

Anyway,isthere any multiplayer forum present here ?????

Make sure your baseq3 folder is writable (and that your user account has the rights to write to it).

I DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE BASEQ3 FOLDER "WRITABLE".AND EVEN IF I DO,I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT.

Rightclick the folder --> Properties --> General Tab --> Remove the mark at "Read Only".

Clicking Ok\Apply after that would be worth the effort

By making the folder writable,will that annoying "INVALID CDKEY" shit be gone or would i have 2 do something else???(Do tell me if YOU guys are getting annoyed with me)

Ok im getting this problem-
I remove the mark from the read only box, and click on apply then ok.
But after that when i click on properties the read only box is again marked.
I think my account doesn't have "THE RIGHTS" to do it.
SIGH!!what now?????????

Punkbuster up to date?
Own a legal copy? (You probably do, but just in case. )
Lend you're Q3 copy to a friend in the past?
Try to login as administrator?
What version you got? Vanilla Quake 3, or Steam Quake 3?

-Punk buster is not up to date.

-I dont know if its a legal copy(got it from a friend of mine)

Update Punkbuster.

Get the executable here: http://websec.evenbalance.com/downloads ... bsetup.exe.

Add Quake 3 Arena to it, and then check for updates. That will do the trick.

You need a up-to-date Punkbuster to play on most servers.

After that, really not much we can do. Seeing as it is a copy of you're friend, and you have lend it to other friends, it might be that more people then you have the key now, and are using it to play online.

And the worst case scenario. You got a illigal copy!

Punkbuster might help, but I doubt it. But it sure is handy to have it up-to-date so you can play online.

My advice, buy a copy yourself. That will make you 100% able to play online.

I've updated punkbuster but still cant play pb enabled servers.....
My folks wont let me buy q3 coz they think my studies will get more disturbed.
So I thought of using hamachi, considered as the best online gaming software.
I joined my friend's server using it....and guess what....I got a ping of only 999 ..isn't it gr8?.
That means I'll have to play those servers...with over 200 pings( In India its very very very rare to find a server with a ping less than even 160, except FRagshack)for the rest of my days

When q3 is running pull down the console and type pb_cl_enable

I suggest using a game server browser (if you're not already using one) such as Qtracker or The All-Seeing Eye. They should allow you to find more playable servers.

Hmm... I think there should be some russian servers not too far from u. As Cooldown said, u should try ASE or smth like that.

And don't get so sad just cuz of this, we all have problems

And wortex ur right , Russia is not far from here,, but even chinese servers r giving me high pings(im not joking, china is next to india)

Anyway though,i wanted to ask u guys,if there is any software like Hamachi available.
I have hamachi but like i said its giving me a ping time of 999.
