Overclocking failed

I went and bought:

Q6600

XFX GeForce 8800GT

MSI S775 Intel P35

OCZ Technology 600W Active PFC GameXStream

Antec 180

Crucial 1GB X 2 DDR2

Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer

Seagate Barracuda 750Gb HD

I put the computer together and when I boot it up, it switches on, then off then on again and then it comes up with an error message:

"Overclocking failed!"

Does anyone know what the problem is?

all I can think of is did you plug the 12V processor supply in? I forgot when building my current system and it wouldn't post.

After it comes up with that message ( typical MSI mssg )

go into the bios, and select "load optimised defaults" or somthing to that effect, press F10 then enter and see if it continues to show that error..

it could also be an issue witht he bios itsself, you may need to flash it to get it working with the Quad-core, you did check that before buying that mobo, right?

I set it to load optimised defaults, the error message still happens.

It's supposed to support Core 2 Quad, at least thats what it says on the packaging.

My motherboard basically has 3 plugs that must be plugged in. Two at the white connector and then 1 was by the keyboard/mouse ports.
The single plug on mine is labeled as 'EATX12V'.

Turns out you were right AmIdYfReAk, I flashed the bios from 1.3 to 1.7 and it works now. Thanks.

no problem mang, a few moo manufacturer's will print that they have support for the Cpu's on the box or on the website, but when you actaully look a little deeper it supports it after whatever vir of bios that the mobodosnt ship with :)

Glad to hear its working now man !

Yep everything's working fine now.

Plays Quake 3 like a dream, that's the most important thing. ;)
