10 reasons each why - Next Xbox 2009, PS4 2014, Wii 2 2010

These three articles thoughtfully and cleverly outline 10 reasons each for why they think the next generation of consoles will launch in 2009, 2010 and 2014. (They do make the mistake, at least once, of calling them "next-next-generation", which is stupid cause the current generation is the latest one which has launched, but anyway.)

Most of the stuff they list is BS. HDMI not standard? Its been standard on all systems for months now. Plus I for one am glad I dont have Wireless included. I dont need it, why should I pay for it?

The only real reason there is the HDD problem, its silly they never included one with every console. Plus the prices of them are stupid, so I hope the next box will have a standard one in there.

It's all a bit nonsense. None of their "reasons" point out a clear date for a next generation.

Also, the next generation for two companies won't be 5 years apart. When MS says we have a new console, Sony will have to say the same, otherwise they'll have a console that's considered last gen compared to MS' latest offering. That's just the way it works. All companies will come no more than 2 years apart from each other with new hardware. When that moment is though, is up for speculation.

I think that right now, the xbox360/ps3/wii generation is still called "next gen", which basically tells us people still consider them as new. This generation hasn't properly taken off yet. Talk of a "next-next generation" is rubbish.

Its still called next gen because the PS2 is a fucking monster profit maker thats still selling more than anything else, thats why its not "current gen". As soon as that fucker dies its game on, I just cant see that happening any time soon.

I hate the term "next gen", it's nothing more than a buzzword tossed around as if it's actually supposed to mean something. I think we should construct a giant cardboard cutout of the word, dump some kerosene on it, light it on fire and watch it burn.

Yeah but now you're talking about end-of-life time, not the time it's being put in the market. XBox, PS2 and Gamecube were also released in a relatively short timespan. PS1 and N64 is the same story.

When either three of them comes with a new console, the other two will follow suit within 2 years, I'm pretty sure of that.

Yeah and look what happened to it. It was never a thread or a serious contestant. Sega suffered too much from the saturn's failure.

Microsoft killed the DC with one of those dirty deals to get their game software to compete with Sony. Why make hardware when you can sell to any format? DC was ahead of it's time...predating the popularity of the DVD killed it (PS2 was the first to be a complete entertainment system with DVD ability).
