I'd like to make a favicon for my site. I have made some with this image but I think
it will look better if it was a transparent gif. Heres the help part:
could someone make this a transparent gif or if your feeling really generous make it
a favicon.

Next time you make a picture like that, make it as a layer, and if you want a black background or whatever, put that as another layer below it. Then save it as a file that preserves the layers (not merged) so you can have partial transparency later (ie. you wouldn't have this problem now). (The file format of the program basically.)

If someone made this for you, you could ask them if they have the original so you can use that (vector images are simmilar to layers in this).

I made it 64x64 cause I thought that was icon size.

(The outer edges don't look smooth cause you can't blend it with the background colour cause a favicon could be on any colour background (it depends on what colours people have set in their OS (or maybe browser).)

DTS, thanks a bunch. I'm not picky that will do fine. As for your first comment, this is how it goes.
The guy at the t shirt shop made it for me to put on t shirts. I got a black and white copy from him. My daughter colorized it by painting it in photoshop for me. I didn't have the patience or the know how to do it otherwise. So that basically is the original.
I appreciate your effort!!
I'm gonna icon it and try it out which should take several hours.

Dam, it works fine, but I guess the real problem is the pallet (i think) is to big for the graphic and it gets ridiculously small at 16x16.
Is it that hard to lift that graphic and put it on a smaller pallet?
thanks

The pallete is only 17 colours. Do you mean the canvas size? It has to have a border at the top and bottom cause icons are square. Do you mean take off the text and crop the image to just the circular saw?

see i told you i don't know anything, thanks for your patience.
yes, I mean the canvas. The image you made is perfectly fine, with the letters. I just mean I think if the image you made was on a smaller canvas it would be bigger when shrunk to favicon size.
Check it out with the one you made.

I thought I made it clear that that is as small as the canvas will go without cropping the image.

this is why one usually creates special, simplified logos for small icons

Thanks for the info, Grudge, n1 Survivor

I noticed you left a 1 pixel border around your image; is that necessary?

I just checked again; you're right that the png doesn't have a border, but when it's converted into a favicon.ico the partial transparency becomes completely transparent so it ends up having a 1 pixel border.
