This is the first time that I've put my SATA drives to a striped configuration.
I've always had them set to mirrored prior to this.
I figured I'd put it to striped to increase my disc space.
Well now one of the hard drives crapped out and now I've basically lost about 300 gigs of files.......yay!
I guess I'll have to buy a replacement drive and I might as well pick up two additional big drives. Maybe one I'll do one as raid0 and the other as raid1.

Sorry bout your luck =(
This is a good reminder for everyone who wants the "performance boost" from striped RAID. You also get a boost in chance of failure!

I've found RAID sets (I've only worked on ones that came with the motherboard) tend to somehow really increase the chance of hard drive failure, beyond what it should. I don't know if that is just coincidence or there is some reality behind it.

honestly, it usually comes down to heat.

I'll be buying a replacement drive as well I'll be buying 2 new 500 gig drives.
Either this one:
Seagate 500GB 7200RPM SATAII 32MB
or
Seagate Barracuda ES.2 500GB SATAII 32MB

Google's report says otherwise.
