good free dvd authoring program?

I'm trying to put some of my DivX movies (mostly Top Gear) onto DVDs so I can watch them at other people's houses. I use Nero6 Ultra, and it all works fine -- dvds play well in most decent players, image quality isn't lost too much when I put multiple episodes on one disc, etc...

However, the menu design function in Nero blows. I have the option of adding a few crappy buttons, and I can change the color of the text, and the background animation. That's about it.

Any suggestions for free software that is good for making interesting menus? This project certainly isn't worth paying for.

Otherwise try some other programs in this list:

Or get a Mac, iDVD comes with it.

Cool, thanks for that. Out of curiosity, have you used any of them?

And I do have a mac, but I avoid using it when I can. I'll give iDVD a try. I suppose I can at least use it to have two dvds encoding at once...

Only iDVD. It's pretty easy and mostly self explanatory. DVDstyler looks interesting and easy to use.

Urk.
Definitely not a fan of iDVD. User unfriendly, can't control the quality of encoding, can't add chapters, and a little apple icon appears in my menus.

What's more, it's been running for 2.5 hours and it's only half done encoding ONE of the videos that is going on the disc. :miffed:

*sigh* Thanks anyway. I'll give DVDstyler a try tomorrow.

I let it encode overnight, and after all that, the disc wouldn't play. :olo:
