Computer screws

With every new case you get a bag of screws.

Besides the special ones that are meant for mounting the motherboard, I just use the regular Phillips head, hexagonally crowned ones that have little metal gripping folds under the head for everything. They work on the outside of the case, they work for mounting drives, they work for mounting cards.

There are something like six different kinds of screws included in every bag, though. Do they each have a special purpose, other than being useless?

Also, those little red insulating 'washers', I use them for the hell of it when I mount the motherboard, but I've had times where I ran out and didn't use any. Do they actually do a job?

Another question is, why do cases still have holes for ridiculous form factors like AT? Has an AT motherboard been sold in the last eight years?

And the slashdot thread where you'll find lots of discussion about it:

They had that long of a conversation about this?

That's seriously nerdy. So nerdy that I feel like I don't need to get laid tonight, because I'm already Wilt Chamberlain compared to those clowns.
