People that listen to Rush (the band)

This is a real trivial and stupid question, but it came up in conversation today so I figured I'd ask anyone who might have an opinion.
I'm more of a casual fan of the group but always thought that the band's drummer was the real instrumental trademark of the group - it was his drumming that was more notable than the guitar or bass. Today I was told by a colleague who has followed the band for a long long time that it is actually the lead singers bass playing that is more of their trademark...that he is a better bass player than the drummer is a drum player. Is he pretty much the only person in the world with this opinion or is this a common perspective?
On an unrelated note I just saw on the tube that the stone temple pilots are back together so I'm guessing scott weiland's (sp?) heroin junkie behavior finally got him booted from velvet revolver?

It's Neil Peart's percussion artistry by far. Geddy Lee is a decent bass player, but nothing revolutionary. Same with Lifeson's guitar, solid, occasionally complex, very much technically competent, and sometimes pretty awesome. But, Peart is such a master skins basher that he eclipses both of them. I think all the lyrics are his, too. I know most of them are, but he may have written all of their songs.

The shade is right on all accounts.
But I really dig Alex's guitar.
Did you guys know Neil didn't play on their
first album. Some other guy did but neil joined for the second and all the rest.
Their first album is really good too.

Peart wrote most if not all of the lyrics. I think Lifeson is best on acoustical guitar. Lee is a killer bass player, and also does the keyboard and most of the synth sounds live. My favorite album is Caress of Steel
But I think what sets them apart from all other bands is their level of play live.

NS said it all there.

Although, I believe, the music was predominately Lifeson and Lee. The lyrics are Peart.
Best of RUSH:

I haven't followed it day to day or anything, but I have yet to see a sure answer on the breakup. All I know is somewhere near the end of March he stated on stage that they were breaking up, though I later read Slash saying they are going to continue the tour just not with scott.
If it wasnt' for slash being in the band I wouldn't have followed them much anyway. I'm all for STP getting back together though.

He's out. Just read up on it...it was his behavior that was a big part of them letting him go.
Velvet Revolver founding members Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner announced today that they are parting ways with singer Scott Weiland. "This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either, said Slash. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."

All three members are what make Rush so good, but specifically it's definitely not Lee's bass playing. Lifeson's guitar is better than Lee's bass, and Pert's drumming, multitasking, and lyrics trump their other talents. All amazingly gifted musicians, though.

Lee's bass may be replaceable, but not his voice. Have you heard the rockband covers? ughhhhh

Yeah of course his voice is what makes it also. You couldn't replace any of them.

Which is exactly what I said, you dumb fuck.

Just because you're stupid doesn't mean I was using 'songs' to infer that Peart wrote the music as well as the lyrics. See, literate people try to avoid using identical words in the same sentence, but I expect that concept's beyond you.

geddy's better than just decent as is lifeson - yes, as far as pure musicianship pert would "win", but really, who gives a fuck.
