Quake 3 bugged -need halp D:

Well hello there :D
My first post - and of course it's a problem with Quake 3 (And 4) :P

So here goes:
Image

Yup, that's how my problem looks like.
It seems to be OpenGL bug, which ruins not only the ingame textures but also the menus.
Quake 4 got only bugged menus.

I've tried googling for that, Idsoftware's own help etc. still not working.

Specs:

Intel Pentium 4 @3.06 Ghz
Nvidia 7300GS
GA-8TRC412M-NF -Chipset Ati RS400/RC400/RC410 -Southbridge ATI SB400
1024 Mb of DDR2 ram @266.5 Mhz (2x 512)
Win XP Media Center Pro SP2
DirectX 9.0c

used CPUZ for those.

as far as I know it's OpenGL, because my Stepmania worked fine before :P

I've Overclocked my 7300 GS, but I went back to defaults to see if that was the problem. Didn't work :(

Any suggestions? :D

Try a different graphics driver version. Go a few version numbers backwards if possible.

How hot does the video card become while playing Q3A?

Oh, and what are the resolution and color depth you are running the game and your desktop at?

@Foo - Tried older gfx drivers, did not work.
@Misantropia - passive cooled -> 90*Celcius IDLE, can hit 120*C in CSS/TF2. Desktop reso 1280x1024 and 32bit color. Quake3:A is on defaults *800x600?*
@Jugger - I don't really like that crosshair :P and I'd like to play Quake3:A in its full shine
@MKJ - Why? :/

those temps are way too high for a graphics card. your going to need to get an aftermarket cooler for it, that is if it isnt damaged already.

I used nTune, Nvidia's own program to check the temps.
And yeah I know, they're way too high and I would've added a cooler if there was space under my gfx card :/

I still think it's driver related because I've been having those temps for a year or something and my Stepmania worked fine before :P

Now they both look like that pic I posted

*ninja edit* decided to take a few more pics of those bugs.

Nope. Those screenies are classic examples of overheating artifacts. Time to buy a cooler or swap the whole card.

Aw damn...
Ah well, getting my new pc in few days so this wont be a problem for long...

I still wonder why it's only Q3, Q4 and Stepmania that bug around.

OpenGL vs DirectX

Can you try r_vertexlight 1 then vid_restart at the console, see if it changes anything...

I believe that is done ingame rather than a config file. I shall have a go :D

-brb-
And Im back. With the results:
It did change something, maybe smoother edges but nothing else.
*Sorry for the load of pics :P*
