i've got the "crap lap" here, and i've recently updated to AVG 8 ( got sick of the nagging ) and honestly, when i am brawsing networked folders, trying to watch movies ( through the network ) AVG takes up to 60% Cpu scanning shit, and honestly, this laptop cant afford to be out that Mhz :)

So anyone ran into a small is key kinda Anti-virii app? want somthing that will be minimal with the CPU, and try to only eat about 20-30mb of ram ( considering this lap only has 256 )

Thanks for the suggestions,
*back to uninstalling AVG8*

Avast is lighter on resources than AVG, especially if you disable the optional components and just go with the main app.

Also turning off file read scanning and just having file write scanning helps a lot in any AV.... so make that tweak if you can find the option.

I rolled back to 7.5 after less than a day of "experiencing" 8.0. What a pile of wank, seriously.
Good thing that nagging pop-up hasn't appeared for a few days now.

Updates to 7.5 will not be available after June 25.

I hear Avast misses a lot of shit, but it might be the only choice post-25th...

Yeah, I've been disappointed with 8.0. The interface is better, but then they added all sorts of intrusive stuff that makes it feel more like some sort of hijacking in itself.

Currently using Avast. It isn't bad, haven't found anything to complain about yet.

I'm not getting nag screens at all from avg 7.5, unless I do manual updates (auto updates are nag-free)

And it's been a solid product for many months now... Such a thing is "too good to be true" so I'm not suprised to hear support is ending and the new version is, umm, less good.

I used to be a die hard NAV fan until they got insane about licensing, and customer PCs were causing me headaches. After that I went bareback for a couple of years and then got AVG. Dunno what I'll do now.

i couldn't get that annoying icon to stop spinning (yes, i unchecked or checked that option to turn it off) so out it went. currently testing AntiVir and so far so good.
