Tanks and Rogues is a modification for Quake III Arena with a heavy focus on micro scale teamplay. Basically there are two classes: the tanks and the rogues. The tank carry a strong shield, which makes him invulnerable to any regular attack. The only one who can disable this shield is the rogue but the rogue can't do any heavy damage to health. Hence, to take out an enemy tank your team will need both a rogue (to eliminate the shield) and a fellow tank to deal regular damage.

The tank's shield will reappear after a few seconds making unsynchronized attacks worthless. The tank will also regenerate health (both his own and nearby friendly rogues) to further encourage synchronized teamplay.

I have been developing this mod for two weeks and now I think it's ready for real human player testing.

Now testers are needed and that's where you come in! You will need an open mind and willingness to give us feedback so that I can improve the game. This is not just a hunt for bugs, I also want to tweak variables and possibly add new features. Unfortunately I can so far only accept testers from Europe or close to Europe as the only test server will be located in Sweden.

All information you'll need will be found at the Tanks and Rogues Forum. There is also an IRC channel, more information about it is on the forum.

I have more ideas for teamplay enhancing features but right now I want to test the core gameplay and tweak it to near perfection before going any further. I have done some work to make understanding the gameplay easier, there are a couple of smart tool-tips implemented and stuff like that. Even though the mod is purely server side I'm using the means available to give players positive/helpful feedback when possible.

All you have to do to become a tester is to register at the Tanks and Rogues Forum, read up on the details and join the IRC channel to see when testing sessions are going down.

I currently don't want to release the qvm so you can't make your own servers. The main reason for this is that I don't want different versions of the game in the wild at this early stage. For now, there will only be one testing server and it will be located in Sweden, fortunately the connection is quite good so pings should be acceptable all over Europe.

Hi again guys!
I really wanted to get you some pictures so that you'd get a feeling for the mod. These pictures are from the first playtest where we had 4+ human players. The mod isn't much fun without at least two persons on each team and bots don't cut it for testing so this was quite the event for our mod.

All in all, it was a great success. Here are screenshots!

Ah! You're one of the players who joined in those early tests. It's great to hear that you liked it then, a lot of details have been changed since but the core gameplay sticks. See you around M_Ngija.
