i dunno, i think there's alot of people out there who never played it the first time round. that, and it looks like there's enough around it to make it better than it used to be. at least, i would think that if my invite would ever arrive.

the other factor is vista. it's been a few years since vista began to force integrated gpus to be more than a formality. now that that's the case, casual games can actually be made in more than flash. instant action ( ) is capitalizing on this as well.

expansion of casual gaming market + igp's that aren't buttfuck useless + 10-year old tech = something worth trying

I wouldn't call wanting to keep it going beating a dead horse. I have yet to play another FPS that I felt had the brilliant physics of q3 - it was the only FPS I have played that actually let me feel like I was making "athletic" moves (like a rocket jump, spin in the air, rail someone, etc.)
I've been disappointed in pretty much every arena style deathmatch game I've played since I stopped q3. What I want now is rocket arena 4.


was just talking to a friend about the fact that if quakelive ends up being great, the brand new machine I am building (parts here on wednesday ) is going to be used primarily to play a game I started playing almost 10 years ago.

So I don't see it as a dead horse. Maybe if they were charging people for it.

Q3 is the only game I can get totally absorbed in. It's always been that for me. If I'm in the zone, I could lose two or three hours in what seems like 15 mins. When my chair is just right and the mouse is hat'nin and my playlist hits JUST the right mix...GOD I LOVE THE SMELL OF ROCKET LAUNCHER IN THE MORNING!

i don't think it's beating a dead horse either. it'll be good for some of us to play it and get enthused about it again, but especially good for the poor souls that have never touched upon the brilliance that is q3.

Now I don't have to excuse myself when i map for it either, seeing how it's 'the shit' again.

Quake 3 is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest multiplayer gaming experience in the history of the internets. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fucking idiot.

It would be odd to find someone on this particular forum that didn't think Quake 3 was the best multiplayer game of all time, especially given how... you know... this is QUAKE 3 WORLD and most of us have been posting here for the last 5-8 years.

Yeah, because in the 8 years since its release there's no chance of anyone playing a game they like more, and no one posts on gaming forums unless it's a forum concerning their one and only favourite game of all time.
