are there ram and dx10 fixes for xp?

i'm going to upgrade from ide to sata and having used vista for about 6 months now i've come to the conclusion that it's pointless and useless and would like to go back to ex pee. i do however have 4gig of ram and would like to continue to have my games in dx10, hence the thread.

answers on a postcard, please :)

edit: mmm, seems that the ram is a 32bit problem, not specific to xp? if i get 64bit xp it should be fine, yeah?

IIRC, driver support for XP-64 is pretty bad. Check for driver support beforehand. I'm not sure how good XP-64 is at working with 32-bit software.

There were third party dx10 drivers being made for XP but it looks like the project is at a standstill.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Once you get through all the configuring and bs, it's smooth sailing.

So far Mazda is the only person I've read that has spoken fondly of Vista. Anyone else with lots of positives? I'm using XP with my 4 gigs and it only shows 3.25 gigs under my computer - but I'll live with that for now.

I've been using Vista Business 64 bit since it came out and quite satisfied with it. It was a bit rough at first, but so was XP.

I've been using Vista Business 64 as well and its great. If anyone wants to speed it up just turn off unneeded services and disable the eye candy and Aero. Just like XP was.

pfft, I convinced myself to do it when I put together an external backup drive. It was a pain in the ass at first and even managed to switch me back to XP before I gave it another try. It's all smooth now.

Issues with running older games have led to me installing XP. I intend to put Vista back on and dual boot... but I'm in no rush.

I've been using XP 64bit since I built my last computer and I never ran into any troubles with drivers.

Good to know that others find it just fin too. What I don't want to see is a performance hit in demanding games. For example, if I am pushing 30 fps in XP at max settings, am I going to drop to 20 in Vista? The other issue is that I really don't have any need for a new OS - other than some visual bells and whistles, Vista isn't going to change what I do or how I do it significantly.

One thing I hate is when you download something, and you goto save it and it pops open the last folder you saved to.
Like your porn folder for instance.

Nope, not after SP1. I read a lot about how bad Vista was for gaming when it first came out.

Oh btw, the reason I did give Vista a second chance was because I added another 2 gigs of RAM and XP would only use 2.75. 4GB is pretty much recommended for running Vista.
